As regard to Sultana’s pattern Sophie Bøhrt found her source of inspiration in
her own personal story, influenced by her Mediterranean culture.
Sophie was born and raised in Nice, in the South of France.
Her Catalan mother handed down to Sophie her grand-mother’s laces
sample book which had a great impact on the choice of her design.
“Sultana”, to me, refers to the Ottoman Empire and calls for
blue, but it also reminds me of the Morrocan and Spanish moucharabieh,
which I have associated to my Catalan grand mother’s laces.
